At a conference on Sunday, BRICS leaders criticised recent Israeli-US strikes on Iran and “indiscriminate” trade taxes imposed by US President Donald Trump. Approximately half of the world’s population and 40% of its economic production are accounted for by the 11 rising nations, which include Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

Despite their disagreements, the bloc came together to condemn the US leader and his erratic trade conflicts, even if they did not specifically name Trump. In a joint statement released at the meeting, BRICS members expressed “serious concerns about the rise of unilateral tariff” measures, claiming that the tariffs may harm the world economy.

An additional 10% tariff will be applied to any nation that supports the BRICS’ anti-American actions. “This policy will not be exempted,” Trump stated on his Truth Social platform.
