At Least Nine People were Killed when a wave of Detonating Pagers hit Hizbollah in Syria and Lebanon

Tuesday saw explosions across Lebanon caused by hundreds of pagers used by Hizbollah members, which the group blamed on Israel and which resulted in at least nine fatalities and approximately 2,800 injuries.

The wave of explosions occurred just hours after Israel declared it was expanding the objectives of the war sparked by Hamas’s October 7 attacks to include its fight against Hizbollah along its border with Lebanon. The Israeli military did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

A source close to the group told AFP that among the dead were the sons of Hizbollah lawmakers Ali Ammar and Hassan Fadlallah, who asked to remain anonymous to discuss sensitive issues.

The majority of the injuries reported were to the face, hands, and stomach, he continued, adding that “2,800 people were injured, about 200 of them critically.”

According to the family and a source close to the group, the 10-year-old daughter of a Hizbollah member was killed when her pager exploded in the Bekaa Valley in east Lebanon.

According to Iranian state media, the pager explosion also injured Tehran’s ambassador to Beirut, though his wounds were not life-threatening.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitor based in Britain, 14 people were injured in neighbouring Syria “after pagers used by Hizbollah exploded.
