All eyes are on the Middle East as US President Donald Trump embarks on what is being called a “historic visit” to the area. Trump’s first foreign trip during his second term as president is probably going to have broader ramifications.
US presidents usually pick their closest allies for the initial visit, such Canada, France, the UK, or Mexico. Thus, from an American standpoint, the Gulf is a very significant place for his first visit,” Hussain Abdul-Hussain, research fellow at the Foundation for Defence of Democracies (FDD), a think tank located in Washington, told Khaleej Times.
The White House claims that the trip’s purpose is to attract foreign investment to the United States.
Located in Dubai, this action solidified Trump’s reputation as a “deal maker” above all else, according to Suzanne Kianpour, an Iranian-American foreign affairs expert and the creator and CEO of the social impact platform Helmet to Heels. “He is more concerned with making agreements that benefit businesses in the US and the GCC than he is with the sensitivity of international diplomacy,” she added.
The new Disney park in Abu Dhabi and Damac’s proposed investment in US data centres are all part of mutually beneficial agreements that will further strengthen the ties between the UAE and the US,” she said. “It’s the art of the deal for Trump,” she stated.
