In association with the University of Sharjah (UoS), the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) organised a three-day workshop called “Martian Robotic Rover 2.1,” which was presented by the team from the planetarium and outreach department.
The workshop is a component of SAASST’s dedication to using cutting-edge tools and techniques to organise various educational activities in space exploration, engineering, and technology, to improve the scientific and technical skills of high school and university students in addition to space enthusiasts.
Through a combination of theoretical lectures and hands-on activities, participants in the workshop learned how to design, construct, and code a Martian rover and use specialised software and applications to remotely control the vehicle.
The robotics-related space missions were also highlighted in the workshop. The rover was fitted with infrared sensors to precisely track its route in this iteration. After completing the Martian rover’s assembly, participants tested the first code that controlled the rover’s motors and allowed it to navigate.
