The Al Ain Court of Initial Appeal fined a man to pay a woman Dhs15,000 in payment for the moral injury she suffered after he insulted her by sending audio recordings via WhatsApp. The issue arose from a lawsuit filed by the woman against the defendant, in which she sought that he pay her Dhs50,000 in compensation for the losses she incurred, plus costs and expenses.
In support of her claim, the plaintiff claimed that the defendant insulted her via audio recordings provided via WhatsApp and that the defendant was convicted of this occurrence in a criminal judgment.
The plaintiff said she filed this complaint because she suffered financial and moral harm. She supplied copies of the criminal judgement and a certificate from the Public Prosecution stating that it was not appealed.
The disagreement was brought before the competent office, where the plaintiff and defendant were present. The defendant claimed that due to conflicts between the parties, he acted to reconcile them, and that his intervention posed no threat to the plaintiff. The defendant then produced a memo explaining the facts of the disagreement and the communication between the parties. Therefore, the supervising judge decided to refer the case to this court.
