Syrian President Ahmed Al Sharaa considered the backing of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vise President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Dubai, before to starting his keynote address at the 2026 Arab Media Summit. He expressed sincere gratitude for Sheikh Mohammed’s wonderful hospitality and commended him for his compassion and concern for the Syrian people. Al Sharaa emphasised the vital importance of media in efficient communication while expressing delight in being a member of the Arab Media Summit.

He advocated for truthful reporting that keeps up with societal changes and stressed the significance of journalists avoiding politicisation. He admitted that Syria had faced difficult circumstances as a result of extraordinary sanctions, which he only compared to those imposed on North Korea. Syria has emerged as a safe corridor and a crucial part of global supply chains, according to Al Sharaa, who noted that Syria has transformed from a source of instability to a zone of stability.

The relationship between Jebel Ali and Tartus, he added, is evidence of the stability the nation currently enjoys. He reaffirmed Syria’s autonomy in making decisions, highlighting the nation’s own determination to free Damascus. In light of the substantial foreign presence in the area, he regarded this as one of the most difficult judgements made. He added that reconstruction efforts are being impacted by the aftermath of over 60 years of destruction and a 14-year battle in Syria.
