In the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside President-elect Donald Trump’s hotel in Las Vegas, the highly decorated Army soldier inside shot himself in the head prior to the explosion and probably intended to do more damage, but the explosive was crude and the steel-sided vehicle took most of the force, officials said Thursday.

At a news conference, Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill stated that a handgun was discovered at the foot of the guy, who authorities suspect to be Matthew Livelsberger. According to officials, the shot was self-inflicted.

The truck’s interior sustained the majority of the damage from the explosion. A few feet distant, the Trump hotel doors were not struck by the blast, which “vented out and up,” according to the sheriff.

Kenny Cooper, a special agent in charge for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, stated, “We would not anticipate this level of sophistication from someone with this kind of military experience.”

According to McMahill, additional burnt objects discovered within the truck included a second handgun, several fireworks, a passport, a military ID, credit cards, an iPhone, and a smartwatch. Both firearms were lawfully obtained, according to authorities.

The sheriff stated that although the remains have not been positively recognized as Livelsberger, the identification and markings on the body “give a strong indication that it’s him.
