
Following the announcement of a truce with Iran, the relatives of Israeli captives held in Gaza and Israel’s opposition leader demanded on Tuesday that the conflict in the Palestinian territory end. Following a 12-day conflict in which Israel and the US bombarded Iran’s nuclear facilities, US President Donald Trump said that a truce had been reached between the two countries.
Gaza is next. It’s time to complete it there as well. On X, opposition leader Yair Lapid of the centre-right Yesh Atid party wrote, “Bring the hostages back, stop the war.” The primary organisation for the relatives of those kidnapped during Hamas’ October 2023 onslaught on Israel is the Hostages and Missing relatives Forum.
To stop the war and return all the hostages home, we encourage the government to start immediate talks. It issued a statement saying, “Those who can reach a ceasefire with Iran can also end the war in Gaza.”
49 hostages—27 of whom the Israeli military claims are dead—remain in Gaza after Palestinian terrorists captured 251 of them in October 2023. The prime minister of Qatar, a crucial mediator between Israel and Hamas, stated that the Gulf nation was attempting to resume truce negotiations.
