A visionary entrepreneur and industry leader, Ali Zein is the Founder & CEO of OneX, an enterprise platform that automates the AI lifecycle with built-in compliance, governance, and DevSecOps, empowering organizations to deploy AI faster and more securely. With over 16 years of entrepreneurial experience, Ali transitioned from software services to building scalable tech products, positioning OneX as a category-defining AI enablement platform with early traction among banks, telcos, and governments. He is currently part of the Unicorn Builder Program by Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism in partnership with Endeavor, scaling OneX into a global AI leader from the heart of Dubai.
Spark Behind the Journey
We started the interview by asking, “What inspired you to start or lead this business, and how has the journey surprised you?”
Ali Zein shared, “I’ve always believed that with just a brain and a machine, even a simple PC, we can change the world. That belief has been the driving force behind everything I’ve built. The idea that innovation doesn’t have to start with massive resources, just clarity of thought and access to technology, inspired me to start my career in software development and later to start my own company.”
Lessons for Younger Self
To learn more about Ali Zein’s leadership evolution, we asked, “Looking back to your first year in this role, what advice would you give yourself?”
“If I could go back to my first year, I’d tell myself: say no more often, especially to distractions disguised as opportunities. Initially, I felt the pressure to chase every feature request or partnership idea, but that diluted our focus. I’ve learned that real traction comes from saying yes only to what drives growth,” he mentioned.
One Step at a Time
We requested Ali Zein to share his approach to solving problems that lack clear solutions.
Sharing about fragmenting the problems, Ali explained, “I break complex problems into smaller, manageable parts, then solve each piece step by step. It’s a divide-and-conquer mindset. I don’t wait for perfect clarity; I test fast, learn fast, and adjust. Progress beats perfection.”
Career-Defining Experiences
A business leader often comes across certain situations that change their approach towards running a business. To learn about similar accounts in Ali Zein’s career path, we posed the question, “Can you share a unique experience that shaped the way you run your business?”
“A unique experience that shaped the way I run the business was leading through a period of high uncertainty (Covid) when revenue was unpredictable, and we had to make tough calls. Instead of scaling back, I leaned into clarity: we narrowed our focus, said no to distractions, and aligned the team around one bold vision. That moment taught me that leadership is less about having all the answers and more about creating conviction and momentum when it matters most,” he mentioned.
Turning an Unconventional Decision into Success
We further asked, “What’s the most unconventional idea you’ve implemented, and how did it turn out?”
Ali Zein reflected, “One of the most unconventional decisions I made was to focus our sales efforts on a newly built AI platform while we were still running a service business. Most would’ve waited until things were stable, but I believed the platform had more long-term value. We spun it out, focused on licensing, and that shift changed everything, and it turned us from a service provider into an AI enablement company with enterprise traction.”
Staying Ahead of the Curve
Interested to learn more about Ali Zein’s approach to staying ahead of the competition, we asked him to share his strategy for identifying and seizing the latest opportunities in the industry.
Ali Zein explained, “I stay close to two signals: emerging tech shifts and unsolved enterprise pain. I watch where technology is creating new leverage, like AI ModelOps, and then I look for where existing tools fall short in real-world use. From there, I move fast: test small, validate with early adopters, and double down if the demand is real. It’s less about chasing trends and more about spotting the gaps others miss and building with speed and clarity.”
A Decisive Leader: Leading the Business to Succeed
We requested Ali Zein to describe his leadership style in one word, and the reason behind the same.
Ali Zein added, “Decisive. I believe in moving fast with clarity even if it means making imperfect choices. In startups, momentum matters more than waiting for perfect answers. I listen, assess, and then commit. That decisiveness keeps the team aligned and the business moving.”
Navigating through Challenges
A major setback can often prove to be a turning point for the business. To learn about similar experiences faced by Ali, we inquired, “Can you share a challenge you faced that led to a surprising breakthrough?”
“A key challenge we faced was the unpredictability and limits of the services business as it didn’t scale the way we needed. Strategically, we knew we had to shift to a licensing model to build long-term value. As we worked closely with enterprises, we saw consistent gaps in how they deployed and governed AI, DevOps, fragmented tools, compliance risks, and inefficiencies. That insight led to the creation of OneX. What started as a business constraint turned into a breakthrough opportunity to build something with real market pull,” Ali mentioned.
Building a Strong Human Impact
We ended the session by asking, “If you could change one thing about the industry you work in, what would it be?”
“I’d push for more purpose-driven innovation that prioritizes health and longevity. AI has the potential to extend and improve lives, but too much of the industry is still chasing short-term gains. We need to build for lasting human impact,” Ali concluded.
