We recently had the privilege of interviewing Wasif Mazhar, the HR Architect, Lead Trainer & Founder at Make It Happen– Global (MIH-Global), an organizational development and capacity-building company. With 20 years of expertise in different organizations, Wasif has an action-based focus and passion which helps him to engage and enable organizations and teams as a facilitator and coach.
MIH works on a core philosophy of enabling organizations, teams, and individuals to craft result-oriented initiatives and drives to achieve excellence. With his organization, Wasif and his team are always ready to enable their valued clients and teams to help them grow.
Spark Behind The Journey
We first asked, “What inspired you to start or lead this business, and how has the journey surprised you?”
Wasif Mazhar shared, “People. Inspiring people, and creating something tangible for organizations and teams to ensure that they achieve their goals and aspirations is what I look forward to. I was always ready for surprises and knew that the day I will take a leap of faith, manifestation will turn goals into reality.”
Learning From Setbacks
We were interested to learn how Wasif would change his career path if he had the chance to advise his younger self. So, we asked, “If you could go back to your first year in this role, what advice would you give yourself?”
Wasif Mazhar replied, “Learn to let go sometimes. There are things which are not meant to come your way, move on, explore, and enjoy failures.”
Adaptability Amidst Uncertainties
Challenges and setbacks are a part of every career path. We asked, “How do you approach solving problems that don’t have clear solutions?”
“I understand the problem. Always good to take a deep dive into challenges, understand what is the root cause, and customize accordingly. Some challenges are not a problem, but a reality that needs to be dealt with.” He reflected.
Turning Points In Business
We further asked, “Can you share a unique experience that shaped the way you run your business today?”
Wasif Mazhar added, “COVID-19 reshaped us into who we are today as a startup. Starting with back-to-back training as a full-time training company, things took an interesting turn of events and we emerged as a full-time GIG-based Organizational Development & HR company.”
Success Of An Unconventional Plan, We Asked-Wasif Mazhar
To learn more about the ideas that turned out to be unexpectedly successful, we asked, “What’s the most unconventional idea you’ve implemented, and how did it turn out?”
“Running my startup and branding it as a GIG-based company which started outsourcing the entire HR&OD function was itself unconventional for fraternity and Industry. ‘Believe and Achieve’ was my mantra which kept me going and it turned out as the abracadabra for me.” He responded.
Identifying Untapped Potential
To stay ahead of the curve, it is crucial to identify the trends and act at the right time. So, we asked, “How do you identify and seize new opportunities in your industry?”
Wasif Mazhar explained, “My love for Mondays; being known as ‘Wasif – The Monday Man’ is my full-time inspirational content/video blog which helps me create inspiration about my work and the value it can add to drive organizational excellence. I stay agile about market trends and futuristic about tapping into opportunities that can harness and create a winning platform.”
A True Leader
Eager to learn Wasif’s leading approach in his business, we asked, “If you had to describe your leadership style in one word, what would it be, and why?”
“Engager. Something that has helped me grow as a Leader and I believe in it to the core to create and sustain relationships and drive human potential for bigger results.” He mentioned.
Turning Challenges Into Opportunities
We asked, “What’s a challenge you faced that turned into an unexpected opportunity?”
Wasif Mazhar responded, “When I started as a startup founder, our age as a company was a challenge for us. Happens when you don’t have a legacy or a track record. But what brought success or a bit of work in the early days was my professional experience as a corporate knowledge worker, before I took the leap of faith, which turned things in our favor. Now working across 3 countries in 5 years of our inception, dreams coming true I guess.”
Making The Right Choices
We ended the interview by asking, “If you could change one thing about the industry you work in, what would it be?”
“Complacency. As a consultant and trainer, I get a chance to connect and work alongside some global or local brands and leaders. Organizations or teams that can outperform and achieve magical numbers choose to adopt a pathway going nowhere. Picking easy without realizing that it will bring mediocre results rather than choosing challenging but magnificent results is what humans need to learn, understand, and live.” Wasif concluded.
