Six people were killed and eight injured in a suspected heating mishap at a restaurant in a northwest Czech city, rescue officials reported on Sunday.
“A patio gas heater was likely knocked over, causing the fire to spread very quickly,” the local fire department wrote on Facebook.
The fire started in a wooden garden next to the restaurant U Kojota (“Coyote”) at a housing complex in Most, which is roughly 70 kilometers (45 miles) northwest of the capital, Prague.
The fire brigade reported it at 2217 GMT on Saturday and stated it was under control by midnight.
In spite of everything, six individuals suffered tragically as a result of the fire,” it stated.
All were transported to hospitals with burns, and eight more were hurt, six of them critically.
According to Petr Bures, regional emergency service director, five were transported to Prague, two to the Most hospital, and one to Usti nad Labem, the regional capital, as reported by Czech TV.
“Some of them have severe injuries and their lives are in danger,” added Bures.
Vit Rakusan, the interior minister, stated on X that some 30 people had been evacuated from the restaurant and a nearby apartment complex.
Zdenek Blaha, a firefighter, told Czech TV that all six deaths were discovered inside the restaurant, although he did not say if they were in the beer garden.
