Law No. (22) of 2005 addressing hunting in Abu Dhabi and its Executive Regulations govern the season. The season demonstrates EAD’s dedication to safeguarding wildlife and natural ecosystems while maintaining falconry as a vital component of the UAE’s cultural legacy. Only licensed falconers are permitted to hunt Houbara bustards raised in captivity during the 2026–2027 season. In accordance with Resolution No. (5) of 2021, which modified several of the Executive Regulations of the Hunting Law, EAD grants falconry licenses. Any falcon used for hunting must be registered in the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment’s national falcon registration system, and applicants must be citizens of the United Arab Emirates who are at least eighteen years old.
Using UAE Pass, applications for a traditional falconry hunting licence can be submitted via the “TAMM” smart application or website. Candidates must choose “Leisure” under the Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi, then proceed to the “Issuance of Falconry Licence” service, agree to the terms and conditions, and pay the AED 127 seasonal charge. After that, the licence is issued electronically. Falconers are required to abide by all environmental regulations outlined in the licence. Licenses are only good for one season, and hunting is only allowed from sunrise to dusk. Falconers are not allowed to drive over or destroy vegetation, hunt or disturb other wild animals, birds or reptiles, or give their permit to someone else. When hunting, licence holders are required to carry their licence and show it to the appropriate authorities upon request. They must also properly dispose of all rubbish and maintain clean natural areas.
