As attacks throughout the Middle East overshadowed diplomatic attempts in Pakistan to salvage an interim ceasefire agreement that has collapsed, the US military announced early on Wednesday that it had finished the eleventh night of strikes on Iran. Drone storage facilities and aircraft hangars were among the targets, according to US Central Command. President Donald Trump hinted that strikes would be getting more intense, which prompted the latest onslaught.

In an attempt to revive diplomacy, Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni traveled to Pakistan, a crucial conflict mediator, prior to the most recent strikes. However, it was unclear what fresh agreement might be achieved to put an end to the conflict, which has recently turned into a struggle over control of the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway essential to global energy supply. Trump had a pessimistic outlook on potential negotiations when speaking from the Oval Office on Tuesday, stating that the US had “no interest in meeting.” He hinted that an area of Iran near one of the country’s primary uranium enrichment facilities might soon be targeted by US forces.

Both sides have targeted the region’s civilian infrastructure, which is vital to millions of people, in an attempt to gain leverage while negotiations and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz have essentially halted. Iran still controls the strait, which was used to transport around one-fifth of the world’s natural gas and crude oil prior to the conflict, despite a flurry of US strikes.

Iranian air defenses activated in the vicinity of Tehran, the country’s capital, as the US resumed its bombings into Wednesday. Explosions rocked the provinces of Bushehr, East Azerbaijan, Hamadan, Hormozgan, Khuzestan, and Sistan and Baluchistan, according to Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency. That followed Iran’s attack on a tanker in the strait on Tuesday, which resulted in the crew having to flee the vessel. Iran continued to assault US partners in the area as well. Additionally, Iran attacked Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.
