In a podcast conversation with presenter Joe Rogan released on Wednesday, US Vice President JD Vance stated that some Israeli government officials had attempted to sway US public opinion against a US agreement to stop the conflict with Iran.
The remarks reaffirmed Vance’s previous criticism of Israeli government policies, which has widened the public divide between the two nations. Vance is widely seen as a possible future presidential candidate.
Vance defended an agreement made last month to terminate the war with Iran, which has drawn criticism from both the US and Israel for failing to stop Iran’s missile program and offering “no clear path to dismantling its nuclear facilities, while constraining Israel in its war with Hizbollah in Lebanon.”Vance stated, “I am absolutely certain that there have been individuals within the Israeli government who are attempting to actually move us away from that policy because they want to continue the military campaign.”
Although he has “good relationships” with some Israeli government officials, the vice president stated that “there are some people within their system that we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that are manipulating and trying to change American public opinion to keep the war going on indefinitely.
According to Vance, “it doesn’t bother me that Israel tries to do this, it frankly doesn’t even bother me that Russia or some of these other countries do it,” despite the fact that numerous nations, both allies and enemies, attempt to influence US policy.
