The United Arab Emirates will host the 42nd International Congress of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) in the Emirate of Sharjah in 2030 under the theme “Stories Change the World,” under the patronage of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and on the orders of Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) and Founder and Honorary President of the UAEBBY.
More than 1,000 specialists, publishers, and scholars from more than 80 nations will attend the event, which is the first congress to be hosted in the Arab world. The IBBY International Congress, which is held every two years, unites IBBY national sections with professionals and activists who are dedicated to advancing children’s and youths’ access to books across the globe. It provides a worldwide forum for creating professional networks, sharing expertise, and investigating new developments in children’s literature. In addition to exhibitions and cultural events, such as the introduction of the Hans Christian Andersen Award and the IBBY Honour List, the program includes panel discussions, seminars, and workshops addressing important sector concerns.
