We recently had the privilege of engaging in an insightful conversation with Nash Chhatralia, CEO of The Bridge East Midlands, an organization that leads as the beacon of hope for preventing homelessness. An award-winning executive, Nash Chhatralia has gained immense experience working for the community over the years. At The Bridge East Midlands, he leads a community united with a common purpose of building a better future. With a vision to make homelessness a thing of the past, Nash Chhatralia is an instrumental figure in delivering a lasting impact in the UK.
Spark Behind the Journey
We started the interview by asking, “Could you start by telling us about your professional journey and inspiration behind jumping into this industry?”
Nash Chhatralia shared, “My journey has been shaped by both ambition and heart. I started my career in London with Ford Motor Company as a COBOL programmer and project manager after studying Business Information Systems at Sheffield Hallam University. It was a solid corporate foundation, but even then I felt the pull of entrepreneurship. Alongside my role at Ford, I launched a small events management business. I’ve always loved bringing people together, whether through business or food.
That passion evolved into co-founding a catering company with a close friend. When the opportunity arose to take that energy back home to Leicester and build something full-time, I took the leap. It meant leaving security behind, but it also meant building something of my own.”
“Over the years, I ran a successful restaurant and catering company called Paprika and later moved on to operating a mini mart and Post Office. Those roles grounded me. When you run a convenience store and post office, you see the community at its most real: the elderly customers collecting their pension, families managing weekly budgets, and small business owners posting their stock. It taught me humility, patience, and the importance of trust.
I later joined the Peepul Centre initially to develop their restaurant operation. What started as a commercial project soon evolved into a broader leadership role, and I became Director of Business Development & Charity. One of the defining moments during that time was the Covid crisis. We led a food project delivering over 5,000 meals a week to those in need. It was relentless but deeply meaningful work. Alongside that, we helped establish a mass Covid vaccination centre, transforming the venue into a place of hope and safety during uncertainty. That experience reinforced something for me: leadership is about stepping up when it matters most.
Today, as CEO of The Bridge (East Midlands), I bring all those chapters together — commercial discipline, community connection, and social purpose, to focus on homelessness prevention. It feels less like a career move and more like a calling,” he added.
Lessons Embraced over the Years
Intrigued to learn more about his experiences, we asked Nash Chhatralia, “As a professional in this field, what lessons have helped you lead?”
He replied, “The biggest lesson is that leadership is service. Whether in hospitality, retail, or charity, people respond to authenticity. I’ve learnt that being present, not distant, builds stronger teams. I believe in rolling my sleeves up. No task is beneath a leader.
Another lesson is resilience. From running small businesses to a large community centre, there are always setbacks. The key is staying steady and solution-focused. And perhaps most importantly, relationships are everything. Communities thrive on trust. Teams thrive on clarity. Organisations thrive on shared purpose.”
Navigating through Uncertainties
Challenging phases are a part of every professional path. To learn more, we asked Nash Chhatralia, “What has been a major challenge in your career, and how did you overcome it?”
“The recurring challenge has been stepping into the unknown. Leaving Ford to pursue business. Scaling hospitality ventures. Navigating Covid. Moving into senior charity leadership. Each stage required courage.
I overcame it by trusting my values and leaning on strong networks. I’ve always believed that growth comes from discomfort. If you stay too comfortable, you stop evolving,” Nash mentioned.

Interested to learn Nash Chhatralia’s plans for the services he provides, we requested him to share the same.
He answered, “At The Bridge (East Midlands), my focus is on prevention, sustainability, and dignity.
Homelessness is rarely a single event; it is often the result of layered challenges. We aim to intervene early, through mediation, family support, and tenancy sustainment — before the crisis point.
We are strengthening governance, building strategic partnerships, and diversifying income streams to ensure long-term resilience. I want the organisation to be both compassionate and commercially astute, because impact requires sustainability.”
Balancing the Best of Technological Advancements
We then asked, “What are your thoughts on AI and its growing presence in business?”
“AI is a powerful tool, and I believe leaders should embrace it thoughtfully. It can enhance efficiency, analysis, and communication.
However, in sectors like ours, humanity must remain central. You cannot automate empathy. Technology should enhance human work, not replace human connection. Balance is key,” he added.
Message for Aspiring Professionals
Lastly, addressing the beginners in his field, we asked Nash Chhatralia, “What advice would you give to beginners in any field?”
Nash responded, “Don’t be afraid to pivot. Your career doesn’t have to follow a straight line. Mine certainly didn’t. Every chapter, corporate, entrepreneurial, retail, and charity has shaped who I am as a leader.
Work hard. Protect your integrity. Build strong relationships. And remember that success is not just financial, it’s measured by the difference you make.
For me, the most rewarding part of my journey isn’t the titles I’ve held. It’s knowing that, at various points in my life, I’ve been able to create opportunity, serve the community, and step forward when it counted most.”
