The UAE is continuing to strengthen its advanced approach to building smart cities through strategic investments, with a strong focus on data centres that serve as the core infrastructure of smart urban systems and the digital, knowledge-based economy.
As the use of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and digital government services continues to grow, data has become central to urban life. In this environment, data centres have evolved into the platforms that enable real-time management of smart cities.
Amel Chadli, President of the Gulf Cluster at Schneider Electric, said data centres now function as the brain of smart cities, processing massive volumes of information instantly, sometimes reaching several terabytes in highly advanced settings.
She explained that this capability is critical for the UAE, where key urban systems such as transport, government services, energy, and public safety depend on interconnected digital networks powered by AI and IoT technologies.
Chadli highlighted initiatives like Masdar City, the Dubai Urban Plan 2040, and the Digital Government Strategy 2025 as clear examples of the UAE’s data-driven urban development model aimed at improving quality of life. She added that achieving this vision requires secure, adaptable local digital infrastructure.
