By the second half of next year, Lodd Autonomous, an AI-driven logistics company and drone maker based in Abu Dhabi, plans to start deploying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to deliver packages and cargo at a “fraction of the cost,” according to its CEO.
Rashid Matar Al Manai, CEO of Lodd Autonomous, stated in an interview with Khaleej Times that a test flight is planned for November and that entire UAV testing is anticipated to be finished by the second quarter of 2026.
Hili, Lodd’s flagship unmanned aerial vehicle, can transport up to 250 kg at 180 kmph across a 300 km range. Al Manai stated: “We are open to sell it or lease it, whatever makes sense and depending on the buyer demand,” even though he would not disclose the drone’s pricing. It is comparable to the business model of airlines.
Applications for the Hili drone include humanitarian efforts during natural catastrophes, offshore delivery for oil and gas corporations, and use by cargo companies. Al Manai went on to say that the UAVs may also function freely and autonomously beyond national boundaries. With support from the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) and the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC), Lodd is creating autonomous drones for package delivery.
