A new captive exchange between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ukraine was successfully mediated by the UAE, leading to the release of 230 prisoners and bringing the total number of prisoners exchanged through UAE mediation efforts to 1,788.
Less than a month after the last exchange process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) thanked the governments of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ukraine for their cooperation with the UAE’s mediation efforts. These initiatives demonstrate the UAE’s dedication to acting as a trustworthy intermediary and advancing diplomacy to end the conflict between the two nations.
The Ministry emphasised that the UAE’s strong relationships and collaborations with both sides have contributed to the success of this latest mediation, which is the seventh since the year’s beginning.
The Ministry also reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to carrying out all programs and efforts meant to resolve the conflict peacefully, emphasising the value of de-escalation and dialogue as the only means of doing so and of lessening its humanitarian effects.
Notably, the United States and the Russian Federation were able to exchange two prisoners successfully in December 2022, and since the beginning of this year, the UAE’s mediation efforts have been successful in completing war captive exchanges between Russia and Ukraine.
