Tyler Robinson, the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s killing, is a 22-year-old Utah native who, according to authorities, was residing with his family at the time of the incident and had allegedly attacked the conservative influencer in a previous conversation. Authorities said on Friday that Robinson was taken into custody late Thursday after a family friend contacted them.
No motive has been made public by investigators. According to a family member questioned by law authorities, Robinson recently brought up Kirk’s presence at Utah Valley University, where he was shot on Tuesday, over a recent meal, Utah Governor Spencer Cox informed reporters. They discussed his opinions and the reasons they didn’t like him,” Cox recalled. The family member informed detectives that Robinson had also gotten increasingly political in recent years.
According to state documents that Reuters examined, Robinson doesn’t seem to have any criminal background. According to state voter records, he was a registered voter but did not belong to any political party. In 2021, he spent a semester at Utah State University in Logan, which the university verified to Reuters. The reason for his departure from the college was not immediately apparent.
