President Donald Trump is set to finalize a deal for TikTok and maintain the well-known video-sharing app in the United States before a deadline next month, according to Vice President JD Vance. Vance, who is assisting in managing discussions for the forced sale, told NBC News in an interview on Friday that there will most likely be a high-level agreement that “allows for a distinct Us TikTok enterprise and satisfies our national security concerns.
He continued, “I think we’re going to be in a place where we can say TikTok is operational, and it’s also operational in a way that’s protective of Americans’ data privacy and America’s national security, whether it’s through an extension or simply getting the deal in place satisfies the national security concerns.”
Vance gave no information on the people negotiating the app’s purchase. Earlier this week, Trump said that a deal might be reached “soon” and that he is now in discussions with four distinct possible purchasers for TikTok’s US business. The president did not specify which of those candidates he was leaning toward in order to seal the agreement. The app is owned by ByteDance Ltd., a company based in Beijing.
