In order to initiate a bilateral cooperation program to expedite patent granting procedures in the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America and the United Arab Emirates signed a Joint Statement of Intent. This occurred in Geneva at the 66th Assemblies of the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) Member States.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the Ministry of Economy and Tourism jointly signed a statement stating that the program offers cooperative procedures to acknowledge favorable examination findings from the USPTO for related Emirati patent applications. This will be carried out in compliance with the relevant national legislation.

The UAE’s dedication to implementing global best practices and boosting the competitiveness of its intellectual property ecosystem is reflected in this collaboration, according to Abdullah Bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism. Industrial property rights and the creation of patent registration processes that satisfy inventors’ goals are given special attention, with a focus on offering adaptable and effective services that foster an innovative and entrepreneurial environment. This initiative strengthens the nation’s standing as a regional center for the defense of intellectual property rights.

He also emphasized that by embracing cutting-edge operating concepts and bolstering international cooperation, the collaboration with the US side represented a fresh effort to speed up patent issuing.
