In accordance with President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s orders, the United Arab Emirates has launched an immediate humanitarian response to aid communities impacted by the tragic landslides and floods in Sri Lanka.
The Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Authority’s specialized search and rescue teams are sent as part of the UAE response through the Joint Operations Command, the UAE Red Crescent, and the UAE Aid Agency to assist operations in the most severely affected areas. The endeavor also covers the distribution of emergency relief goods, containing necessary food items, medical necessities, and critical shelter materials for displaced persons and families.
The devastating flooding and landslides, followed by prolonged and torrential rainfall, have resulted in the deaths of at least 355 people, with more than 366 more reported missing. Hundreds of homes across various regions have been partially or fully damaged, and daily life has been disrupted for over a million people nationwide. This swift involvement underscores the UAE’s consistent humanitarian commitment to delivering timely and effective support to people in need worldwide.
