According to UAE Economy Minister Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, the country is making sure that big merchants are following the new pricing guidelines for nine essential consumer goods and haven’t raised prices unnecessarily.

In order to make sure that the pricing of nine essential consumer goods—cooking oil, eggs, dairy products, rice, sugar, chicken, legumes, bread, and wheat—are shown clearly and in accordance with the regulations, Al Marri visited Union Coop, Lulu, and five other significant stores.

We made sure that sales outlets were committed to implementing the new pricing policy for the nine basic consumer goods, making sure that they weren’t raised unnecessarily, and clearly and legibly displaying product prices to customers during the tours,” he said.

To safeguard customers and promote competition, the Ministry of Economy declared in December 2024 that shops may not raise the cost of nine essential consumer goods without prior authorisation.

Additionally, it said that starting in 2025, there will be a minimum of six months between two consecutive hikes in the price of essential commodities.Retailers were required by the new policy to display commodity prices prominently. In the UAE, the holy month of Ramadan is anticipated to start on March 1, 2025.

As residents and citizens of the United Arab Emirates throw lavish parties during the month of Ramadan and invite their friends and family, consumer spending soars during this time. According to retailers, during Ramadan, basic consumer goods have increased by double digits.
