Trump stated on Friday that it would likely be known within a day whether Hamas, the Palestinian organisation, had accepted what he has referred to as a “final proposal” for an Israel-Hamas truce in Gaza.
The Abraham Accords, a treaty on normalising relations between Israel and certain Gulf nations that his government reached during his first term, were also discussed by the president with Saudi Arabia. Trump said on Tuesday that Israel has agreed to the terms of a 60-day truce with Hamas, during which time the parties will try to bring the conflict to a conclusion.
When asked if Hamas had accepted the most recent ceasefire agreement framework on Friday, he responded, “We’ll see what happens, we are going to know over the next 24 hours.” According to a person close to Hamas, the Islamist organisation requested assurances on Thursday that Israel’s conflict in Gaza will end as a result of the latest ceasefire plan supported by the US.
According to Israeli statistics, Hamas’ October 2023 onslaught on Israel resulted in 1,200 deaths and the capture of over 250 captives, marking the most recent wave of violence in the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
