The United States is extremely close to reaching a nuclear agreement with Iran, according to President Donald Trump, who stated Thursday that Tehran has “sort of” accepted the parameters. Trump stated during a Gulf visit, “We’re in very serious negotiations with Iran for long-term peace,” according to an AFP shared pool report.
He stated, “There are two phases to accomplishing this, a very, very lovely step and the violent step, but I don’t want to do it the second way. We’re coming close to reaching a deal without having to do this.
According to an Iranian source involved with the negotiations, there are still gaps to be filled in the discussions with the US. Expectations of a nuclear agreement between the United States and Iran that would lead to the lifting of sanctions caused oil prices to drop by around $2 on Thursday.
As Tehran officially insisted on carrying on with its uranium enrichment, meetings between Iranian and US negotiators to settle disagreements over Tehran’s nuclear program came to a conclusion in Oman on Sunday, with more talks anticipated, authorities said.
A US official and two other people with direct knowledge of the situation told Axios that during Sunday’s fourth round of discussions, the Trump administration presented Iran with a nuclear agreement proposal.
