US President Donald Trump declared on Friday that ten more captives will soon be freed from Gaza, but he gave no further information. Trump praised the work of his special envoy Steve Witkoff when he remarked a White House luncheon with legislators. Since July 6, Israeli and Hamas negotiators have been engaged in the most recent round of ceasefire negotiations in Doha, where they are debating a 60-day ceasefire plan supported by the United States.
Most of the captives were returned to us. We hope to do it as soon as possible because we have another 10 coming up very soon, Trump stated. Although a resolution has proven hard, Trump has been forecasting for weeks that a ceasefire and hostage-release arrangement will soon be reached.
According to a spokesman for Hamas’ armed wing, the Palestinian organization that governs Gaza, the group is in favor of a temporary ceasefire in the conflict but may turn back to demanding a comprehensive package deal if present talks fail to produce such an accord.
Ten hostages held in Gaza are to be released, along with the corpses of eighteen others, over a period of sixty days, according to the proposed truce. Israel would free many Palestinian prisoners in return.
According to Israeli estimates, the battle has claimed the lives of about 1,650 Israelis and foreigners, including 1,200 who were murdered in the October 7, 2023, Hamas onslaught on southern Israel.
