Based on a Myspace tribute to the band’s original singer, Tommy DeCarlo became the main singer of legendary rock band Boston for almost 20 years. He has passed away. Annie, Talia, and Tommy Jr., DeCarlo’s children, announced on his Facebook and Instagram sites that their father, who had been battling brain cancer for months, passed away on Monday. “He fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end,” they stated. He was sixty years old.
The band was created in 1975 and produced songs including “More Than a Feeling” and “Peace of Mind,” but its original singer, Brad Delp, passed away in 2007. A memorial song to Delp was written, performed, and recorded by 43-year-old DeCarlo, who was employed at a Home Depot in North Carolina. He forwarded the band the URL after uploading the song and a couple Boston covers on his Myspace profile.
According to Rolling Stone, DeCarlo was first politely turned down. However, DeCarlo was asked to perform at a tribute performance for the late singer by founding guitarist and composer Tom Scholz, who was impressed by how similar his voice was to Delp’s. He was then invited to join the band by Scholz. In a bio on the band’s website, DeCarlo stated, “It wasn’t like I was trying to sing like Brad; it was just that I loved to sing along with him.” DeCarlo sung on Boston’s 2013 album “Life, Love and Hope” and toured with them for almost 20 years.
