The Education, Human Development, and Community Development Council conducted its second meeting of 2026, chaired by Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Council Chairman.
Sheikha Mariam Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Council’s Vice-Chairperson, attended the meeting. The discussion focused on high-priority themes such as controlling children’s use of social media, advocating strong digital safety measures for children, developing education policies and curricula, and reviewing the results of students’ standardised examinations.
Sheikh Abdullah argued that regulating children’s usage of social media is a national responsibility that necessitates the creation of clear guidelines. The Chairman stressed that these frameworks must be strong enough to guarantee a safe and balanced digital environment for future generations while also keeping up with advanced technical developments.
He went on to clarify that the recommended course of action is guided by a carefully considered, phased, risk-based implementation strategy. This approach prioritises social media platforms because of their enormous effect and extensive use among children, and it includes age-based access controls adapted to the specific needs and developmental stages of younger age groups.
