Fatima Abdulrahman Al Awadhi, 17, became the youngest Emirati to reach the summit of Russia’s Mount Elbrus, Europe’s highest mountain at 5,642 meters, marking a significant milestone for the UAE.
The accomplishment is the most recent phase in her quest to complete the “Seven Summits” challenge, a worldwide mountaineering objective. She made it to the summit of Africa’s tallest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, last year.
To hoist the UAE flag atop the peak, Al Awadhi risked harsh weather and challenging terrain with the support of UAE-based Finance House, an organisation that promotes youth empowerment. For Arab youth, especially young women, her ascent is a source of inspiration and optimism.
In appreciation for their unwavering support of Emirati women and youth, she dedicated her accomplishment to President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and H.H. Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, the “Mother of the Nation,” Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation. Only with our leadership’s unwavering support was it possible to reach this summit,” Al Awadhi stated. “To those who taught us that nothing is insurmountable, I dedicate this accomplishment.
