Since it issued the fatwa for 1446 AH, the UAE Fatwa Council has verified that paying Zakat Al-Fitr in cash is acceptable throughout this Ramadan, the institution said on Wednesday. The financial value for zakat during the month of Ramadan was formerly established by the council at Dh25 per person.
“Men and women, young and old, and those who are obligated to spend must pay it on behalf of themselves, their spouses, their children, and those they support,” the council said, adding that zakat is mandatory for Muslims. Additionally, it has established the quantities of expiation for people who miss fasts in certain circumstances. To read more about these cases.
Ibn Umar’s hadith, which states: “The Messenger of God (peace and blessings of God be upon him) imposed zakat Al Fitr as a sa’ (four double handfuls) of barley or a sa’ of dates on the young and the old,” was cited by the authority to bolster this claim. Each person may get up to 2.5 kg of zakat Al Fitr in the form of rice. The authority clarified that cash might also be used for this.
