His Highness, President of the United Arab Emirates On a business visit to the Republic of India, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan landed in New Delhi on Monday. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several high-ranking officials welcomed Sheikh Mohamed at Palam Air Base.
Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense; Sheikh Hamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that the Letter of Intent is intended to “work on concluding a framework agreement for Strategic Defence Partnership” in response to a query about whether the strategic defense collaboration between India and the United Arab Emirates could force India into a future conflict scenario in the Gulf.
Mr. Misri explained the India-UAE Letter of Intent on Strategic Defence Partnership, saying, I would really characterize it as a natural evolution from the already considerable defense cooperation between the two countries and not necessarily a response to any specific event that may have taken place in the region or of any intent to get involved in a hypothetical future scenario in the region.
