The extended maternity leave for Emirati women employed in the private sector will start on September 1, 2024, Abu Dhabi announced on Tuesday.
According to the authorities, mothers who give birth starting on September 1, 2024, will be eligible for the previously announced 90-day maternity leave. As long as their employer in the private sector approves, Emirati mothers employed in that sector may also apply for this new program to receive additional financial support during their paid maternity leave.
Maternity Leave Support for Women in the Private Sector Program: Emirati mothers must apply within 30 days of the birth of their child to be eligible. A legitimate pay certificate and all of the information related to their bank account, including the IBAN, must also be provided. Similarly, a family book must be published in Abu Dhabi. A no-objection certificate from their employer should also be presented.
The Authority will work to develop strategic alliances in order to support the adoption and execution of this initiative, which is aimed at the private sector, as part of corporate social responsibility. According to Dr Bushra Al Mulla, director general of the Abu Dhabi Social Support Authority, “this will encourage Emirati families to have children and raise them in a healthy and stable environment that supports the growth and development of the Emirati family.”
