Under the direction of Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Muslim Council of Elders has called for concerted international efforts to eradicate the intellectual and ideological foundations of extremism and terrorism by fostering tolerance, communication, and peaceful coexistence.

The Council reaffirms its unwavering rejection of all forms of violence, hatred, and terrorism in a statement commemorating the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, which is observed on August 21 of every year. These actions run counter to the teachings of Islam, all other divine religions, and international law.

The Council emphasised that combating extremism and terrorism is a moral, religious, and human obligation that calls for the coordinated efforts of the international community. The Council furthermore calls for assistance in regaining their normal lives, addressing the psychological and physical effects of their ordeals, and supporting survivors of terrorist attacks and those impacted by the increase in hate speech.
