Despite Israel’s assaults on targets in the Gulf nation, Qatar’s ruler informed world leaders on Tuesday that his country was still working diplomatically to end the war in Gaza. At the UN, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani denounced Israel’s “treacherous” attack on his nation, which targeted Hamas commanders in the center of a residential neighborhood in Doha where they had a liaison office.

Several rounds of unsuccessful diplomacy were conducted in Doha as Qatar, Egypt, and Washington led efforts to mediate a comprehensive truce between Israel and Hamas. He informed the General Assembly that, in contrast to what the Israeli prime minister said, this attack “undermines any diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the genocide against the people in Gaza” and “is not part of a legitimate right to follow perpetrators of terrorism.

When it becomes easier for our adversaries to employ weapons, we will engage in diplomacy,” he continued. “We will keep working together, in partnership with the United States and Egypt.
