While attending the American Library Association’s (ALA) Annual Conference, the biggest library professional conference in the world, in San Diego, USA, the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) accomplished a number of key goals.
Through the promotion of its premier international library events, the introduction of new children’s content initiatives, the expansion of database collaborations and professional training, and the investigation of smart technologies for libraries in the United Arab Emirates and beyond, SBA strengthened Sharjah’s position in the library industry globally.
The group met with ALA President Sam Helmick at senior levels under the direction of SBA CEO Ahmed Bin Rakkad Al Ameri. To draw in more foreign specialists and strengthen their position on the international calendar, talks centred on improving the Sharjah School Libraries Conference and Sharjah International Library Conference.
To provide Arab readers with varied and culturally appropriate content, SBA also emphasised its initiatives to support early literacy and enhance Arabic-language children’s literature through collaboration with US publishers and library networks.
According to Al Ameri, the involvement represents the vision of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah and a member of the Supreme Council, who positioned libraries at the centre of the cultural mission of the emirate.
