
The president of the University of Sharjah and deputy ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, examined the most recent advancements in the projects of the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology (SAASST) as well as its main growth objectives. The visit happened on the Academy’s grounds on a Tuesday afternoon.
Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed took a tour of the Academy’s newly renovated facilities, which are designed to teach guests and refresh their understanding of astronomy and space sciences by utilizing the most up-to-date instructional and technical techniques to convey information effectively.
He was given an overview of the Academy’s ongoing initiatives, such as the CubeSat program and the Meteorite Laboratory Exhibition, which attempts to record and archive meteorites and impact pieces, through a graphic presentation.
The construction of space debris monitoring stations and the optical and radio astronomical observatories the Academy is building in collaboration with a number of public and private organizations were also discussed in the briefing. Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed received an update on the Academy’s initiative to create solar and lunar monitoring devices.
To facilitate the Academy’s involvement in international astronomical observation projects, the initiative strives to improve the scientific infrastructure for monitoring solar and lunar events and supports national efforts in crescent moon sighting for Islamic calendar verification.
