According to his son on Wednesday, Mahathir Mohamad, the 100-year-old former prime minister of Malaysia, will not have surgery for a hip fracture he suffered from a fall at home because of his advanced age.
Mahathir has experienced health issues in recent years, and following a picnic celebration for his centenary in July, he was admitted to the hospital due to exhaustion. Following the collapse at his house on Tuesday, an ambulance sent him to the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur, according to his assistant Sufi Yusoff, who spoke to AFP.
The former PM was anticipated to remain in the hospital “for the next few weeks for treatment and observation,” according to Sufi, after doctors verified a fracture to his right hip. On Wednesday, Mukhriz, the patriarch’s son, said that Mahathir fell inside the house during his usual vigorous walk.
As a result, hospital experts have recommended that he go through a typical rehabilitation procedure, which would require some time. Naturally, the objective is for him to regain his normal health and be able to carry out his responsibilities as he has done for the entire time,” he continued.
