His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, has enacted Law No. (29) of 2024 establishing the Dubai Media Council.
The Law expands the Council’s powers and responsibilities to implement policies and plans for the improvement of Dubai’s media sector. The new law will take effect once it is published in the Official Gazette.
Sheikh Mohammed also issued Decree No. (66) of 2024, designating the Dubai Media Council as the governing body for media activities in Dubai, including special development zones and free zones such as the Dubai International Financial Center.
The Dubai Development Authority will retain power over media activities inside its designated zones, but will work with the Council on regulatory issues.
Furthermore, Sheikh Mohammed approved Decree No. (67) of 2024, which transfers the Dubai Film and TV Commission from the Dubai Development Authority to the Dubai Media Council.
Sheikh Ahmed Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, stated that the new legislation is part of a strategic realignment in the media sector’s governance, led by Sheikh Mohammed’s vision for its growth.
