By successfully renewing its Level 3+ (Neutrality) accreditation, Sharjah Airport has solidified its position as a leader in the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program, which is run by Airports Council International (ACI).

This outstanding accomplishment further demonstrates Sharjah Airport’s dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility by securing its position as the only carbon-neutral airport in the GCC for the fourth year. The Sharjah Airport Authority’s (SAA) chairman, Ali Salim Al Midfa, stressed that this achievement demonstrates the airport’s steadfast dedication to spearheading sustainable aviation initiatives.

“Retaining carbon neutrality for the fourth year in a row is in line with Sharjah’s and the UAE’s strategic vision to promote environmental sustainability,” he said.

He added that this milestone is a crucial component of the airport’s overall sustainability plan, which focusses on cutting carbon emissions, putting green initiatives into place, and starting large-scale projects to balance and offset any remaining emissions.

Sharjah Airport is continuing to develop integrated sustainability strategies under the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy. These strategies include increasing energy efficiency, implementing innovative policies that maximise the positive environmental impact of airport operations, and adopting renewable energy sources.
