For Best Practices in the Field of Plant Production and Sustainable Plant Protection, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) presented the award to Sharjah’s Department of Agriculture and Livestock.

The prize honors the department’s wheat farming methods in the Meliha area, marking a significant international accomplishment that underscores the Emirate of Sharjah’s and the United Arab Emirates’ involvement in advancing creative and climate-resilient food systems.

At Wednesday’s (October 15, 2025) FAO Global Technical Award Ceremony, which took place at the organization’s headquarters in Rome, Dr. Eng. Khalifa Musabeh Al Teneiji, Chairman of the Department of Agriculture and Livestock and CEO of the Sharjah Establishment for Agricultural and Livestock Production “EKTIFA,” was presented with the certificate for this worldwide accomplishment.

Part of the commemoration for the 80th anniversary of the FAO’s creation, the event took place during the 2025 World Food Forum. This honor serves as further evidence of Sharjah’s dedication to creating innovative and sustainable agriculture systems that meet both domestic and global objectives.
