In order for retired residents in the United Arab Emirates to be eligible for the service of receiving a residence permit and Emirates ID card, which will be valid for a period of five years, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has identified six steps, conditions, and controls that must be fulfilled.
The ICP described the four-step procedure for a retired resident to apply for the issuance of an ID card and a residence permit through the smart application UAEICP and the website smartservices.icp.gov.ae.
The following are the steps: The applicant must first use UAE PASS to access his or her account, select the ID and residence card service, check the data that has been retrieved, change it as necessary, and make the required payment.
Additionally, ICP stated that in order to receive the service, two requirements and controls must be fulfilled. To be eligible for the service, a person must be at least 55 years old, have owned one or more properties worth at least one million dirhams, and have lived in the country or abroad for at least 15 years before retiring. As an alternative, a bank statement for the preceding six months must show that the person earned at least Dhs240,000 per year, or its equivalent in foreign currencies.
