In honor of the Prophet’s (PBUH) birthday, the UAE declared Friday, September 5, to be a public holiday for workers in the private sector. Due to the holiday being combined with the official weekend (Saturday and Sunday), the majority of employees will receive a three-day weekend.
Previously, the United Arab Emirates declared September 5 to be the official day of the national holiday for government personnel. For them, this also means a three-day vacation. In the meantime, Fridays are already off for Sharjah’s public sector workers as part of their regular weekends.
Following the non-sighting of the crescent during Rabi Al Awwal on Saturday, August 23, the statement was made. The Prophet’s (PBUH) birthday, which comes on 12 Rabi Al Awwal every year, will fall on September 5 as a result of the UAE’s Astronomy Center’s discovery that the month of Safar would continue 30 days and the third month of the Hijri calendar will start on Monday, August 25.
Because the Kingdom sighted the Moon a day before the Emirates, Saudi Arabia and the UAE will not be celebrating the Prophet’s (PBUH) birthday on the same day, which is an uncommon event.
Because the Islamic calendar is based on lunar sightings, the months are determined by the moon’s phases. The appearance of the new moon marks the start of each month.
