According to police footage released on Friday, a distracted driver in Abu Dhabi triggered a horrifying crash that left at least seven cars stranded in traffic.
The Abu Dhabi Police reaffirmed its caution to drivers: Steer clear of all distractions when operating a motor vehicle.
As it got closer to the traffic bottleneck, the van continued to drive at its current speed while every other car in the lane slowed to a stop. The driver failed to use the brakes, causing the van to collide with a sedan and then an SUV, which in turn collided with other cars in the line.
A delivery motorcycle on the side of the road was among the seven or more vehicles stuck in the jam.
According to the Abu Dhabi Police, the incident brought to light the risks associated with using a mobile device while operating a motor vehicle, whether for social media browsing, phone calls, or photo capturing. They added that any other distractions could result in dangerous mishaps.
According to the police advise, driving while distracted is a significant traffic infraction that carries a Dh800 fine and four black points, making it one of the leading causes of crashes in the nation.
