Hospitals in Gaza say Israeli strikes killed at least 32 Palestinians including many children on Saturday, one of the heaviest tolls since the October ceasefire, a day after Israel accused Hamas of new truce violations.
According to officials at the hospitals that received the bodies, the strikes targeted places all throughout Gaza, including a tent camp in Khan Younis and an apartment block in Gaza City. Two ladies and six children from two different families were among the casualties. At least 14 people were killed and dozens were injured after another airstrike struck a police station in Gaza City, according to Mohamed Abu Selmiya, director of Shifa Hospital.
The strikes came a day before the Rafah crossing along the border with Egypt is slated to open in Gaza’s southernmost city. In a statement, Egypt—one of the mediators of the ceasefire—strongly denounced the Israeli strikes and cautioned that they pose “a direct threat to the political course” of the agreement. Qatar also criticised “repeated Israeli violations” of Gaza ceasefire. In a statement, Hamas denounced the strikes on Saturday as “a brutal crime.
