The UAE will commemorate tomorrow the annual Zayed Humanitarian Day, which falls on the 19th day of Ramadan and marks the anniversary of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the country’s founding father.
The UAE’s strong adherence to the legacy of its founding leader, who rose to prominence as a worldwide symbol of generosity and humanitarianism, is highlighted on Zayed Humanitarian Day. Under his direction, the UAE became one of the top nations that donate humanitarian and relief help, solidifying its standing as a significant global supporter of those in need.
As evidence of the UAE’s dedication to global aid and development, Sheikh Zayed founded the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development in 1971. He also established the Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation in 1992; today, it is called the Zayed for Good Foundation and it carries on its humanitarian efforts both domestically and abroad.
These initiatives demonstrate Sheikh Zayed’s unending compassion and have a noticeable impact across a number of humanitarian domains, as evidenced by statistics. The UAE gave over AED90.5 billion in development and humanitarian assistance to nations worldwide between 1971 and 2004.
Sheikh Zayed has won various accolades for his humanitarian work, such as the Golden Document from the International Organization of Foreigners in Geneva in 1985, the Man of the Year Medal in Paris in 1988, the Ribbon of Development and Environment Award from the Arab League in 1993, and the Golden Medal of Arab History from the Moroccan Historians Association in 1995.
