We recently had the opportunity to have an insightful conversation with Terry Wu, General Manager of Partner Tech Middle East. Leveraging his expertise at Partner Tech, Terry plays a crucial role in serving a wide range of clients, from large-scale retailers to SMEs undergoing digital transformation.
Passionate about bridging Asian innovation with Middle Eastern market opportunities, Terry Wu looks forward to scaling global brands regionally, while shaping the future of retail technology in the dynamic region.
Career Trajectory and Turning Points
We started the interview by asking, “How did your professional journey begin, and what key moments shaped where you are currently?”
Terry shared, “During the early stages of my career, I worked at the intersection of retail and technology, starting from sales and later moving into marketing and project management at Partner Tech’s Taiwan headquarters. Over time, I realized that technology is not just a tool—it’s the engine driving urban and business transformation.
In 2020, during the pandemic, I was assigned to Dubai to help restructure our operations in the Middle East. Working with a multicultural team from ten countries and five different religions reshaped my view of leadership and collaboration. It taught me that combining Asian innovation with local insight creates real, lasting value.”
Current Role and Organization
To learn more about his role in the current organization, we asked Terry Wu, “Can you tell us more about your current role and the organization you lead or represent?”
“I currently serve as the General Manager of Partner Tech Middle East, based in Dubai, overseeing sales and operations across the Middle East, Central Africa, and Central Asia. Our focus lies in Smart Retail and Smart Hospitality solutions, alongside representing major brands through E-POS International, including Honeywell, Sunmi, Cipherlab, BenQ, Seiko, Star Micronics, and many other Qisda corp-related parties’ solutions.
Partner Tech is not just a hardware provider — it’s a technology integrator combining IoT, AI, and cloud platforms to help governments and enterprises accelerate their digital transformation,” he explained.
Core Offerings at Partner Tech
We further asked, “What core services or products does your business provide, and what makes them unique?”
Terry Wu mentioned, “Our core offerings include integrated POS solutions for retail, hospitality, and F&B sectors, supporting Windows, Android, and Linux platforms, self-service kiosks and Checkout systems enhanced with RFID for security and efficiency.
Moreover, we offer mobile POS and enterprise tablets for field operations and mobility, a Cloud Device Management platform for remote monitoring, uptime assurance, and optimization.
We bridge Asian innovation with Middle Eastern market realities, creating smart city ecosystems that work in practice, not just in concept.”
Leadership Challenges and Growth
Challenges are a part of every professional journey. To learn how Terry Wu overcame similar phases, we posed the question, “What major challenges have you faced as a leader, and how have you overcome them?”
Terry Wu reflected, “The biggest challenge is building trust across cultures. In the Middle East, technology isn’t the hardest part—understanding people and culture is. I learned that trust can only be earned through time and sincerity.
Our multicultural team embodies what a ‘smart organization’ truly means—diverse minds working toward one purpose, through patience, empathy, and shared vision.”
Impact of AI and Emerging Technologies
With AI playing an instrumental role in redefining businesses, we asked Terry, “How do you see technology — especially AI — influencing your sector?”
Terry Wu commented, “AI is ushering our industry into the era of intelligent decision-making. From POS to Kiosks and Self-Checkouts, AI helps us interpret data and predict behaviors—making retail more human, mobility more efficient, and cities more responsive.
AI’s purpose isn’t to replace people—it’s to empower them. The real future of competition lies not in stronger hardware, but in how intelligently we let AI help our cities think and respond.”
Future Outlook
We requested Terry to share his perspective on where the industry is heading in the next few years.
“In the next five years, the Middle East will enter a golden era of Smart Cities. From Saudi Vision 2030 to Oman Vision 2040, We the UAE 2031, and beyond—every national agenda shares one theme: technology as the engine of economic growth.
For Partner Tech, this is the best of times. We stand at the crossroads between Asian innovation and Arab ambition, turning technology into part of daily life—not just a showcase of progress,” he mentioned.
Advice for Young Professionals
Addressing the beginners in his field, we asked Terry Wu, “What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs or professionals aiming to create impact?”
“Eighteen years ago, I founded an online lunch-ordering platform called Sweetinheart—a forerunner of today’s delivery platforms. It taught me that entrepreneurship begins with understanding needs and creating value. In Dubai, I often help startups from Taiwan and Asia localize their strategies.
My message is simple: don’t just aim to start a business—focus on creating value. Find real problems to solve, balance global vision with local action, and most of all, be patient—because trust and influence are always built over time,” Terry shared.
