With Doballi, Osita is on a mission to support Africa in creating sustained growth, driving transformation, and contributing to critical global solutions with the region’s young and dynamic workforce.
The Beginning
We began by asking Osita Oparaugo to introduce himself and share about his company.
Osita Oparaugo shared, “I am a lawyer turned techpreneur. I am the founder of Doballi, an AfroVision Technologies Limited company registered and operated out of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). Doballi is an AI-enabled remote job recruitment platform that connects African-vetted tech talents ready to work across all time zones to global opportunities.”
Spark Behind Starting Doballi
Osita’s company, Doballi is bridging gaps between young talents and the best global opportunities. To learn what encouraged him to build the platform, we asked, “What inspired you to start Doballi?”
Osita Oparaugo shared, “To support Africa in creating sustained growth, driving transformation, and contributing to critical global solutions with her unique assets: a young and dynamic workforce.
There is a growing demand for African tech talents by global enterprises desirous of hiring from Africa. Unfortunately, hiring African technical skills has been challenging for many of these enterprises due to the lack of a unified curriculum or standardization in training across the continent.
While millions of Africans have technical skill sets and seek remote job opportunities, training inconsistencies have made it challenging to hire Africans, as the process is often described as ‘hit or miss’ by global employers. With Doballi we have solved this pain point by digitizing technical assessments, bringing the best African tech talents into Doballi with agility and flexibility, and making it easy for global enterprises to hire them.”
Adaptability Amidst Uncertainties
Every business journey is unique, filled with surprises, and can often turn out to be a transforming force for the business. We asked, “How has the journey surprised you?”
“In just 30 days of going live, irrespective of the Christmas holidays, we had over 30,000 registrations. This confirmed that millions of African tech talents are ready to work remotely—a potential workforce for transforming Africa and the world.” He added. Africa’s Tech Talent And Global Opportunities
We continued our conversation by asking, “How do Doballi and Africa’s tech talents benefit UAE and global companies?”
Osita Oparaugo explained, “Positioning Doballi at the Dubai International Financial Center, DIFC, is strategic. Where Doballi talents meet innovation. We have brought the best of Africa’s abundant young, tech-savvy individuals to the Golf and global business community. Many young Africans are well-educated and possess strong technical skills in software development, data science, and cybersecurity. We strongly believe they will be a great asset to the global workforce.
Moreover, the cost of hiring tech talent in Africa is generally lower than in developed countries, which makes African tech professionals an attractive option for companies seeking to reduce costs while maintaining high quality. Also, Africa’s unique challenges, such as limited infrastructure and resource access, have fostered a culture of innovation and problem-solving among African tech talents. Global companies value this ability to think outside the box and develop creative solutions.”
“African professionals are known for their strong communication skills and cultural adaptability. With a history of diverse cultural interactions, African tech talents are adept at working in multicultural environments, making them ideal for global collaboration.” He added.
Standing Out From The Competition With Exceptional Talents
In a competitive market, employers seek top talents who can deliver exceptional performance. So, we asked, “Why would companies hire talents from Doballi and not someone else?”
Osita Oparaugo responded, “It’s very simple: interview one—hire one. Every talent on the Doballi platform is tested and vetted on their core competency area(s), including verifying two professional referees. Sometimes, we conduct background checks on our talents, including government-issued identity cards. These ensure employers hire the best talent with the right skill sets and the talent they can trust.
Once a request is made by an employer, our skilled executives, using advanced AI engines, meticulously evaluate the Doballi talent pool to deliver profiles that precisely match employers’ requirements, thereby driving efficient business growth through a seamless recruitment process.”
Success Of Unconventional Ideas
In a business, thinking outside the box can lead to remarkable results. We asked, “What’s the most unconventional idea you’ve implemented, and how did it turn out?”
“In choosing the Doballi team, I prioritized character over certificates, which has set the team apart. I realized that people with experience are already boxed. They have one English line that I hate so much: ‘This is how we do it.’ Don’t get me wrong; veterans bring valuable qualifications, but I prioritized traits like grit, curiosity, and hunger, which is paying off.” Osita reflected.
Leading With A Purpose
An efficient leader can bring tremendous success to the business. We asked Osita Oparaugo to share his leadership approach, with the question, “If you had to describe your leadership style in one word, what would it be, and why?”
“Purpose. Because great is the power of purpose. A person who grieves because they are misunderstood will not achieve anything, nor will anyone who steps aside from his purpose to please others achieve anything. A person of purpose is stimulated by hindrances, mistakes, difficulties, losses, and pain because they are sure of the final achievement.” He shared.
The Power Of Resilience
We finally ended the session by asking, “In one word, describe African tech talents.”
“Resilient! The African tech talents have a remarkable capacity for resilience, bringing success and ensuring excellence in this field.” Osita concluded.
