We recently had the privilege of interviewing Guy Last, Managing Director at Guy Last Recruitment. With over 15 years of experience in the Real Estate market in Dubai, Guy has set a benchmark in the field. Guy Last Recruitment is a relationship-building business dedicated to delivering a deep understanding of their market, employers, and candidates. With innovative approaches and unique services, Guy Last delivers a consistently high standard of customer service. To redefine the industry, the organization is raising the level of standards, expectations, and value-added services within the field of recruitment.
The Beginning
We first asked, “How did you get started, and what led you to where you are today?”
Guy shared, “I first landed in Dubai in 2005 and started working within the real estate industry in 2006. I worked within the real estate industry in Dubai for 10 years as a senior sales negotiator manager and regional sales director of some of the most successful and biggest real estate companies in Dubai. In 2016 I decided to relocate back to the UK and launch Guy Last Recruitment which specialises in international recruitment for jobs in Dubai real estate.
The business was built completely remotely, with staff based across the UK, Europe, and Dubai. We were ahead of the curve in terms of online remote working. After successfully building the business remotely for the past eight years I’ve decided to relocate back to Dubai to execute the next phase of growth and become a leading recruitment agency across the UAE.”
Current Offerings At Guy Last Recruitment
We were interested to learn more about the services offered at Guy Last Recruitment. So, we asked, “Can you share more about your current role and the business you lead? What are the core services/products you provide?”
“I am the Managing Director of the company and we have 24 members of staff that consist of 4 departments and are led by Directors, Managers, Recruiters, and Operations. This January, we launched our latest service, an innovative service to the real estate industry which is RPO (Recruitment Process Outsourcing). We now support companies by integrating a full-time, fully trained, remote and managed recruitment team into their business, providing all the strategies, structures, and processes to run a successful recruitment department.” He shared.
Adaptability Amidst Challenges
Challenges are an inevitable part of every business journey. So, we asked, “What challenges have you faced as a business leader, and how have you overcome them?”
“There are many challenges when running a complete remote business but we constantly strive for innovation and technology to assist us in delivering unique services, both to our clients and candidates. It has also been a challenge over the last eight years in business development when not being based in the country where the business is conducted.
However, again we overcome this through sheer drive and determination and adopt the most innovative ways to communicate with both clients and candidates. Now that I have fully relocated back to Dubai, I’m excited to meet with clients face to face and support them in achieving the growth ambitions for their business.” Guy responded.
Redefining Businesses With AI
Fast-paced digital transformation has been making a huge impact on every industry. So, we asked, “How do you see technology, especially AI, impacting your industry? Are there any innovative practices you’re implementing?”
He mentioned, “Technology software and AI is going to play a huge part in delivering recruitment services and we strive to be at the forefront of integrating this technology into our business and services. We are taking a unique approach to delivering our recruitment services by providing our clients full access to our tech stack and ways of conducting business. The traditional way of recruiting is where a client signs terms and conditions with their recruitment agency that then goes and conducts that business on their behalf for a large fee.
We understand that companies need a consistent partner in growing their business by providing recruitment solutions for various departments and they need it to go in with a consistent flow of top talent being presented to that business. This is where our unique service called AGENCY (RPO) is extremely attractive to our clients. This service provides a fully integrated experienced and trained team to their business for one set monthly cost each month. The business does not have to provide any visas; there are no recruitment fees, commissions, or additional costs.”
Envisioning The Future
Eager to learn Guy’s vision for the upcoming days of his industry, we asked, “What are your views on the future of the industry you’re associated with?”
“We niche within the real estate industry which has been a booming sector for the last five years post-COVID. In terms of the recruitment sector, it is a saturated market and it’s more important than ever now that you establish yourselves as a company delivering unique and innovative solutions.” He replied.
Insights For Aspiring Professionals
Addressing the beginners, we asked, “What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs or leaders looking to make an impact in your industry?”
Guy shared, “My advice would be to research and become comfortable in using new and innovative technology that can be introduced to clients to improve the outcomes of their recruitment.”
The Art Of Balancing
We ended the interview by asking, “How do you maintain a work-life balance while managing a business?”
“This is always a tricky question, but I think the words should be reversed to life-work balance. The focus first and foremost should be on your life and the most important things within it, such as family, your health, etc, because without that, work doesn’t matter. Get the balance in your life first, then focus on work.” Guy reflected.
