We recently had the privilege of interviewing Anshul Nanda, Group Chief Financial Officer at Apex Health, a rapidly expanding and trusted healthcare provider in the GCC and North Africa. With more than 25 years of experience across global organizations, Anshul has been instrumental in shaping Apex Health’s strategic direction.. From advancing patient care to integrating modern technology, Apex Health is transforming community well-being while supporting economic development across the region. Anshul Nanda has played a pivotal role in broadning the company’s footprint and strengthening the regional healthcare ecosystem.
The Beginning
We began by asking, “How did your professional journey begin, and what key moments shaped where you are currently?”
Anshul shared, “My professional journey began in banking a field that gave me a solid grounding in finance, risk, and relationships. I had the privilege of working across multiple departments in finance and corporate banking and being part of the HSBC team when the SME segment was first developed was a particularly formative experience. Building that business from the ground up was incredibly rewarding and taught me how structure, discipline, and teamwork can turn an idea into a sustainable enterprise. Working with entrepreneurs also opened my eyes to what really drives growth and how companies must keep evolving with the market.
After several years, I moved into the healthcare sector shift that connected finance with purpose. Healthcare drew me in because it’s about impact that goes beyond numbers. The learning curve was steep, but it pushed me to grow as both a leader and a strategist.
Since then, I’ve been part of projects that started as sketches on a whiteboard and became fully operational hospitals. Each milestone from opening new facilities to expanding into new regions has shaped my journey and reinforced one belief: progress happens when purpose meets persistence.
A Glimpse into His Current Role
Curious about his responsibilities, we asked, “Can you tell us more about your current role and the organization you lead or represent?”
He explained: ,“I currently serve as the Group Chief Financial Officer for Apex Health, one of the fastest-growing regional healthcare groups across the GCC and North Africa. It’s been an exciting journey — in just four years, we’ve expanded into four countries and developed eight hospitals, each designed around the specific needs of its community.
My role spans financial strategy, capital planning, investments, and governance — but more importantly, it’s about building a culture that balances performance with purpose. Today, the CFO’s role goes far beyond managing numbers. It’s about driving transformation, supporting innovation, and ensuring the organization is ready for the future.
Each country we operate in comes with its own challenges from regulations to cultural nuances but that’s what keeps us adaptable and learning. It’s deeply rewarding to see how our collective efforts translate into better care for the communities we serve,” he mentioned.
Accessible, High-Quality Healthcare for All
To better understand Apex Health’s value proposition, we asked:
“What core services or products does your business provide, and what makes them unique?”
Anshul explained:
“At Apex Health, our goal is simple but ambitious to make high-quality healthcare accessible, efficient, and sustainable across the region. We operate a growing network of hospitals under different models, including build-and-operate and management contracts, ensuring each facility is tailored to the specific needs of its community while meeting international standards.
We work closely with leading healthcare providers from the US, Korea, and Germany. These collaborations bring advanced medical expertise, proven protocols, and continuous knowledge transfer into our ecosystem.
What truly sets us apart is the speed and discipline with which we move from strategy to execution. We’re focused on delivering value on all fronts exceptional care for patients, effective partnerships for governments, and sustainable performance for investors.
Beyond hospital operations, we’re expanding into medical distribution and digital health natural extensions of our model. This allows us to build a more connected healthcare experience, where technology, infrastructure, and clinical excellence work together to improve outcomes. That’s how we bring Apex Health’s vision of shaping a healthier future to life in real terms.”
Navigating Challenges on the Journey to a Healthier Future
Every growth journey comes with challenges. To explore this further, we asked Anshul:
“What major challenges have you faced as a leader, and how have you overcome them?”
He reflected:
“Leadership is truly tested in times of uncertainty. One of the toughest moments in my career was launching a new hospital at the height of the pandemic. Balancing safety concerns with tight timelines and limited resources meant revisiting almost every assumption, almost every day. Those months tested not just our systems, but our resilience as people.
It reinforced my belief that leadership isn’t about controlling every outcome it’s about staying clear, calm, and confident when things don’t go to plan.
That experience gave me the confidence to take on our next challenge: building an entirely new healthcare group in Qatar. Growing Apex Health from the ground up and expanding it to eight hospitals across four countries in such a short span has been both complex and deeply rewarding.
Each country brought its own realities regulations, financing, operations, and culture but they also taught us adaptability and the importance of respecting local context.
The biggest lesson for me is that success in healthcare is always local. You can’t copy-paste it. You must understand the community, respect the rules, and earn trust on the ground. And none of this would have been possible without our teams passionate, committed professionals who believed in our mission and helped us move one step closer to shaping a healthier future for every community we serve.”
Embracing Innovation at Apex Health
The digital revolution is reshaping how industries operate and healthcare is no exception. So we asked:
“How do you see technology “especially AI “influencing your sector?”
Anshul noted:
“AI is no longer a future concept it is already transforming how healthcare operates, from diagnostics to decision-making. I don’t see AI as replacing human expertise; it’s really about enhancing it.
The most meaningful impact is when AI allows physicians to spend more time with their patients by automating administrative and analytical tasks so doctors can focus on care, empathy, and connection, which is the real heart of medicine.
From a financial and operational standpoint, AI is helping us monitor performance in real time, optimise utilisation, and make faster, data-backed decisions. We’ve seen firsthand how predictive analytics can flag potential issues early and support better outcomes.
At Apex Health, we’re investing in digital transformation not because it’s fashionable, but because it’s the way forward. It’s how we make healthcare more patient-centric, efficient, and ultimately more human. This is a key pillar in how we aim to shape a healthier future.”
Envisioning the Future
To gain deeper insight into the evolution of the sector, we asked Anshul to share his perspective on the future of healthcare in the region.
“Healthcare in the GCC is changing faster than ever and it’s an exciting time to be part of that transformation. We’re seeing a strong move toward integrated networks, where hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and digital platforms all work together as one ecosystem.
The focus is shifting from treating illness to keeping people healthy from volume to value, and from fragmented systems to connected care.
Governments across the region are also deepening partnerships with the private sector to ensure long-term sustainability. Investment is no longer just about building hospitals it’s going into technology, training, and research that lift the quality of care and widen access.
I believe the next few years will be defined by smarter collaboration, thoughtful consolidation, and the intelligent use of data. At Apex Health, we’re positioning ourselves for that future one where care is more connected, more efficient, and more centred on the patient. That’s how we see our role in shaping a healthier future for the GCC and beyond.”
Words of Wisdom for the Next Generation
Finally, we asked Anshul Nanda, “What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs or professionals aiming to create impact?”
He shared: “If I had to share one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s this — build a strong team. Surround yourself with people who know more than you do and give them the space to do their best work. Success, especially in healthcare, comes from collaboration, humility, and the willingness to keep learning.
I’ve also realized that credibility always comes before opportunity. Stay consistent, stay curious, and lead with integrity. The real impact you create will come from the trust you earn and the people you empower along the way.
At the end of the day, leadership isn’t about titles it’s about taking responsibility and helping others grow with you,” Anshul shared.
